On The Wards

The chaplain
Lives with the unexpected,
Having no idea what encounter
The Lord has next ordained.

He sends so many scenes.
Mother leaning over daughter:
The elderly patient washing
Her neighbour’s feet.

Such God-filled acts of love.
The greatest wonder always
That the givers feel
They are the ones in need.
